We have launched a new weekly feature on The Red Radio called The Search Party.
Every Friday morning at 08:30 on The Big Red Breakfast, Shane / C&C team goes on air to break down the most interesting Google trending searches from across the UK, the North East and Teesside. The segment covers a mix of national talking points, regional stories and local news, all pulled from live Google Trends data earlier that morning.
The idea is simple. Google Trends tells you exactly what people are searching for in real time. We work with this data every day as part of what we do for clients, so taking a curated snapshot of it onto local radio each week felt like a natural fit.
What Came Up in Week One
To give you a feel for it, here is what made the cut for the first edition:
Jimmy Bullard and Harry Redknapp entering I’m a Celeb South Africa was the number one picked search in the UK after their late arrival shook up camp.
Dua Lipa’s Pickle Coffee Cola was trending after Nespresso opened a pop-up in Covent Garden serving espresso mixed with diet cola and pickle brine. They are also doing a Marmite latte with avocado foam. Make of that what you will.
Boro vs Ipswich was dominating local search.
Charlie Hunnam losing his Geordie accent had people talking after the Sons of Anarchy star appeared in a Netflix clip sounding nothing like a Geordie. He once had to hire a dialect coach to sound English again after years in Hollywood.
Middlesbrough Town Hall getting a 4 million pound restoration was fresh local news after Arts Council England awarded 2.59 million for essential repairs, with Middlesbrough Council adding 2 million on top as part of the town’s bid for UK City of Culture 2029.
Why We Are Doing This
We have always believed in being visible and active in the local business community. The Red Radio do brilliant work championing Teesside businesses and we are proud to be part of that.
The Search Party also happens to be a good example of something we talk to clients about all the time. Understanding what people are searching for and when they are searching for it is at the core of everything we do in SEO and paid search. This is just a more fun, public-facing version of that.
Catch it every Friday at 08:30 on The Big Red Breakfast. You can listen live at thereduk.com or through The Red Radio app.
