We’re kicking off this new week with another instalment of our Meet the Team series, this time introducing a member of our go-getting PPC team. Say hello to Matt Beresford! A graduate of the University of Leeds, Matt joined us in early 2024 in a Trainee PPC role and has since progressed to his current position, working with clients such as Northern Parrots, My Learning Cloud and Encoder Technology.
We caught up with Matt over a virtual cuppa to discuss his route to joining Climb & Conquer and what his role is like.
Give us a whistlestop tour of your career journey to date:
I ventured into digital marketing after graduating from The University of Leeds. I set up an online store where I sold my prints and taught myself SEO and digital marketing. Following that, I primarily worked in hospitality and retail while enhancing my skills.
Subsequently, I completed a digital marketing course with the Digital Marketing Institute, which bolstered my confidence to start applying for roles, and I was welcomed into Climb & Conquer in February of this year as one of the first members of the PPC team alongside Blanaid.
Describe briefly a typical day in the life of your role:
My day consists of optimising and building ads, communicating with clients and overall just making sure we are doing as much as possible to hit the client’s goals and objectives.
What made you decide to join Climb & Conquer?
I wanted to join a company where I could genuinely progress and grow. Since I only had self-taught experience, I was anxious that no agency would take a chance on me. However, Shane, Blanaid and Climb & Conquer did and provided me with the skills and training to properly start my career, and I’m constantly learning and progressing.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy the variety of clients we get to work with and learning new things about the industry. Working from home is also a bonus and allows me to find a better balance between work and life.
And what’s the most challenging part?
Overcoming Imposter Syndrome. It’s a work in progress!
What’s your hot take on SEO/PPC/Digital Marketing for 2024?
Digital marketing is becoming far too reliant on AI and smart organisations are ensuring that human-first is the cornerstone of their approaches.
If you could give one piece of advice to anyone looking to get into your field, what would it be?
Don’t worry if you have no experience. Keep learning. YouTube has so many free resources to upskill in and don’t feel like you have to know everything about the industry. It’s all about growing in expertise and confidence and finding a role that will give you a step on the career ladder whilst investing in your skills and talent. I’m fortunate to have found that here!
